Are you looking for an affordable builder-grade bathroom upgrade? If so, you have found the right place! 🙂
Bathroom Before
I have hated the color (well, and many other things, lol) of our master bathroom since the day we moved in. [[ Fun fact: The master bedroom was actually this same color when we bought the house! I had a great idea to paint the walls agreeable grey before we moved in, and it looked so bad that we hired painters to come at 6:00 am the day our furniture was being delivered to fix my mistake. Hah! ]]
In hindsight, we probably should have had the painters paint the bathroom while they were here. But here we are, almost three years later, and I finally updated it! The only positive about doing it now is that I really understood what I wanted! And just a note that we absolutely hate the tile and the dark cabinets, but we will live with that because *fingers crossed* a new house is in our future.
Let’s get to the good stuff…..
Paint
When I originally started this project, I was going to paint the walls and call it a day. Once I painted the walls, though, the bathtub surround and walls seemed to run together, and I definitely noticed why the former owners wanted to paint the walls a different color. However, I wanted a light neutral wall, so I needed another plan.
I started to scroll Pinterest (and scroll and scroll and scroll) and finally came across somebody who painted their bathtub surround. That sounded like the perfect solution! I found this gorgeous olive paint at Benjamin Moore and knew it was THE color. I painted all of the beadboard and the trim below it, and it breaks up the floor and walls so well with the white tub!
Walls: Sherwin Williams Hens Nest (Eggshell- this paint was old, and I can not find it anywhere!)
Tub Surround: Benjamin Moore Green Grove (Semi-Gloss)
Decor
I knew I wanted to update the decor and add a way to incorporate more plants (because duh!), so I found THIS floating shelf, and it works PERFECT! It also comes in three different stains, so there should be one that fits any type of style.
Plants can really make a room feel fresh. I can go overboard on plants, but this bathroom does not get much natural light, so I added faux ones to help it feel homey. In addition to the faux ZZ plant and little Boxwood, I have a *real* Peace Lily and ZZ plant that hangs out by the lone window. They love the humidity from the shower! (ZZ plants can thrive in the shade!)
Light fixtures and shades can really take an upgrade to the next level. We had a cheap, builder-grade light fixture and plain white blinds. While these are fine, you can upgrade those for a low cost. I found THIS light fixture and added it to both of our bathrooms! [Pro Trip: Use the GE Daylight lightbulbs. They are a gamechanger for makeup!] I also got THESE shades for our master bath. They were the perfect finishing touch. I am a big fan of the roman shades that let the light filter in! I may or may not have more on the way to me. 😉
I have had the best time watching this brown (lol) bathroom turn into a cozy space that I do not cringe at whenever I walk in!
