So you are headed to Green Bay, Wisconsin… Now What? If you are headed to Green Bay, there is likely one reason you are going. You are probably headed to watch the Green Bay Packers play. There is not much to do in that town other than going to Lambeau Field and yell Go Pack Go with other like-minded folks. First things first, book the lodging!!
Lodging
Green Bay is a tiny town to host such a household name team, so book the accommodations after you secure your tickets or else you may be staying in Milwaukee. We stayed at the Best Western Green Bay Conference Center. It is not cheap, especially for a Best Western lol, but trust me when I say it is worth it! We booked this hotel in July when we got the tickets for December. By September, the hotel was already sold out! You are within walking distance to the stadium, practice field, Titletown, and local bars.
Below I have a few tips for those headed to Green Bay.
When we got there, the first thing we noticed was people BREATHE Green Bay. We went to dinner at a local bar the Saturday before the game, and we decided then and there we did not bring enough Packer gear. People up in the frozen tundra wear their jerseys, green and gold pants, and hats from the minute they step off the plane in Milwaukee. So bring everything green and gold in your closet, and you will not be disappointed.
Let’s talk tailgate parties.
Parking and Tailgate Parties
If you do not have a parking spot and do not want to walk around, there are a few tailgate parties to choose from. We purchased tickets to the D2 Tailgate party that took place at the Best Western about .2 miles away from the stadium. We were staying at this hotel so it was perfect. The other option was the Bart Starr tailgate, and it had an indoor option but we decided to pick D2 due to it being at our hotel. I am SO glad that we did. It was such a fun vibe! It was $50/person and came with unlimited food and drinks (beer/seltzer/wine). There was also a DJ and it was an actual party! This tailgate was well worth it. We went straight from there to the game, and it was the best!
How’s the weather?
We also realized it gets significantly colder at night when the sun goes down. During the day, we wore just a few layers with sweatshirts, but at night we needed to pull out all of the stops. We wore our thick winter coats, double-layered socks, and scarves. We also brought bench seats because Lambeau still has bleachers rather than chairs, and they get freezing cold! One thing that I enjoyed was wearing my neck gaiter that we have for snow skiing. It helped keep my neck warm when the wind would pick up more so than just the scarf.
Green Bay was insanely fun, and I would love to go back. Even though I was born and raised a Dallas Cowboys fan, it is hard not to cheer for the Packers in that atmosphere.
