Deciding what newborn essentials you think you might need as a new mom is intimidating! There are so many blogs out there that tell you that wipe warmers aren’t worth it (I disagree!) and that you need to be the Mammaroo Swing that is $$$$. I am here to share with you what I actually used in the first 12 weeks and I believe made the newborn phase so much easier. Here are my top items for a happy baby (and mama!).
Baby Bum Brush // WORTH IT. Nobody likes getting diaper rash cream on their hands and this saves you from that. We have both the normal size and the travel size.
Waterproof Changing Pad Cover // These are game changers from using the changing pad liners.
Aquaphor Healing Ointment // Preston got a small diaper rash at one week old! I did not know how it happened because I changed him all of the time. One of my best friends mentioned that she used this after every diaper change. I started doing that and it cleared up overnight and we have not had one since. 10/10! And it’s clear – not pasty!
Graco Slim Spaces Swing // The same friend as above told me about this swing and said I needed to read the reviews on the expensive 4Moms one. I did and the 4Moms swing literally is 50/50 on if people’s babies liked it or not. I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars on a swing that he might not even like. This one is great! It’s under $100, battery operated so it can easily be moved and it’s small! It also swings pretty hard if your baby likes swift motions.
Portable Sound Machine // We got this as a baby shower gift and it’s so handy! We have used it every night since we got home from the hospital. It holds a charge to last multiple nights in a row and it’s small.
Portable Nightlight Lantern // We got this and used it at the hospital for delivery and have also used it every night since. It is a touchable, dimmable warm light and is perfect for late-night diaper changes and feedings so you don’t have to turn on the bright light and wake the baby further.
Boba Wrap Carrier // This is for babies who love to be held. This material is very soft and stretchy. Preston loves it!
Copper Pearl Burp Cloths and Bibs // These are more on the pricey side but they are superior! They are super soft, very thick, and absorbent.
Kyte Baby Bodysuit // As seen above in color “Pistachio“. These are so soft and comfy for your babe! They are also generous in stretching. Preston is still in Newborn size – however, he is getting very close to moving up to 0-3 Month.
Boppy Nursing Pillow // We use this more for Preston to lean back on than feeding, but it’s great for feeding when they are itty bitty! I got this cutie cover from Pottery Barn Kids.
Magnetic Me Footies // We did not have any of these until after Preston was born. He was born 3 weeks prematurely and the day after birth was 18 inches long and 6lb 7oz. We got some of these onesies in size Preemie and they fit him perfectly for the first month and a half or so. Even when he was over 8 pounds, he still had short enough arms/legs to fit these perfectly. Currently, he is 22 inches long and 11 lbs and is still in newborn size.
Little Sleepies // I order a few of each size of these before Preston was born and we love them. They run big and I can tell they will last forever. Preston is in newborn size still and has plenty of room to grow! They also have some of their prints in MicroPreemie!
Mylicon // Get these and have them on hand.
Frida Baby Windi // These also help a gassy baby!
Wellements Gripe Water // We love this gripe water. It does have to be refrigerated because it does not contain any preservatives but it really helps ease Preston’s belly. They also have a nighttime version!
Phillips Avent Natural Flow Bottle // We tried the popular Dr. Browns Anti-Colic bottles and the flow was still too strong for Preston. He would throw up after every feed! I found these and they’ve been a game changer. The flow is a natural response so the milk only comes out when the baby is sucking. It fixed the issue almost immediately!
