With this blog, I did not want it to just be all glitz, glamour, and outfits. (Although that will most likely be the majority of it). I also want to be able to share my life with you all. One thing that is a major part of my life is my faith.
Last night during church, I absolutely loved the message. We are beginning our Christmas series called “Oh, come let us adore Him”. This is only the second week of the series, so we are just getting into when Jesus was being conceived. If you don’t know the story, let me sum it up for you really fast so you will understand what I am getting at:
The Birth of John the Baptist: There was a priest named Zechariah that was married to Elizabeth. They were childless because Elizabeth was unable to conceive and they were both very old in age. One day Gabriel (the angel of the Lord) came to Zechariah and said to him “Do not be afraid, your prayer has been heard. Your wife, Elizabeth will bear your son, and you are to call him John (John the Baptist)”-Luke 1:13 Zechariah then questioned Gabriel and asked how he could be sure of this. Zechariah was then silenced until the birth of his son, John, for not believing Gabriel. Elizabeth became pregnant.
Okay, so fast forward now to the next part of the story:
The Birth of Jesus: In the 6th month of Elizabeths pregnancy, God sent Gabriel to Galilee to the virgin Mary. Gabriel told her that she had found a favor with God and she would conceive and give birth to a son who she will call Jesus. Mary asked how it could be since she was a virgin, and Gabriel said to her “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called “the Son of God”. Then he proceeded to tell her how her relative Elizabeth was having a child in her old age. Mary replied with “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.”- Luke 1:38
This is what I have been struggling with lately, and I don’t think I am the only one.
Mary, whom they think was about 13-16 years old, was about to have her life turned upside down and all around, and she was willing to do so in order to fulfill the wishes and commands of God. I struggle with this on a daily basis. It is very hard for me to just say to myself “Okay, you know what God, you’ve called me to do this, and so no matter what.. I am doing it.” I am always selfish of how it will effect me and my family. Did Jesus think of himself when he died upon the cross? No. Did Mary think of herself when she was about to have everyone turn against her? No. So why should I be selfish and put my needs and my wants above what God wants for me.
It is not always easy to put God #1 in your life. You have peer pressure, alcohol, drugs, obscene television shows, exc. just pulling you away slowly from the Word. So as I say again, no, it may not be easy but Luke 1:37 says “For no words from God ever fail”.
In church we talked about what we needed to just surrender in life to God. Whether it be our entire life if we haven’t done so yet, or something like using all of your musical abilities in the church if that has been a calling of yours. Paster Nick Floyd made the comparison to just picking up your white flag and waving it to God. Completely surrendering to him. That is my challenge to myself and to all of you believers out there as well:
Pick up that white flag and surrender, because nothing is impossible with God.
Hope you guys have had an awesome Monday! Until next time, loves.
