We had not been snow skiing or snowboarding in three years until last week! We were so excited to venture west to one of our favorite places to celebrate 2021 and hopefully the start of a better year. As I was going through our ski box, there were so many things that I was remembering I needed or “needed” as I started pulling what all I needed to pack!
This time around we went to Winter Park, Colorado. It was the first time I had been there and Derek has not been in ten years. I fell in love with this place! I loved the little mountain town and fell in love with the area. So much so I want a mountain home there (one day, obviously! Lol). There were a few things that we had to buy once we got there, but here are some of the most important things you need to remember to bring!
The first thing you need to remember to bring is the basics! Ski socks: You need to make sure you wear lightweight yet warm socks. If you get socks that soak-up your sweat, your feet will begin to feel super gross at the end of the day, and nobody likes that! Cold gear (or base layers) is another important thing. Under your snow gear (pants/bibs, jacket, etc.), you will need cold gear. If it is not going to get super cold, then you can wear a workout top and leggings, and you should be fine. However, it was a high of 14 when we were there, and the cold gear was a must. This is what we use. However, you can definitely get a different brand (Sweaty Betty is CUTE but $$$$).
Snow boots are another vital thing. Trust me when I say you do not want to trek from your car to the ski resort in your ski boots. They are not comfortable if you are walking and not skiing. Bring some boots that are easy to get off and on when you change into your ski boots. Also, I recommend wearing short snow boots. The tall ones are just more hassle to get off and on.
Next up: the essentials you can’t forget!! A neck gaiter is essential, especially now. The resorts require that you wear a mask the entire time, and a neck warmer/gaiter works perfectly for that. However, I did buy a full head cover that only had my eyes cut out because my neck gaiter was falling, and it became much more difficult than just getting a different kind. Hot hands are also vital if it is supposed to be cold. I put these in my gloves, jacket pockets, and boots, and I thought about putting them in my base layers because my booty was COLD. You also will need goggles because you do not rent those. We have these and they come at lots of different price points!
When we were on vacation we both remembered how much we loved it! Taking a lunch break to chug some water and drink a beer while watching people come down the mountain is honestly so fun! Have you ever been skiing before, or would you like to? Do you enjoy it? I want to hear all about it!
