Happy Friday, everyone! Every time I post about my girl Rachel Sims AKA @littlerockbeautynurse at Franks Dermatology I get so many questions about Lip Injections + Kybella. Today’s post is going to be all about lip injections! So first thing…back story.
I got lip injections for the first time in August 2017. I did not really read up on the products. techniques, my injector (first big mistake), anything! She had used a bottom tier filler (which Rachel informed me should not be used in lips) and placed the entire syringe in my top lip.. Ohhhhh lord is was bad. Thankfully the filler only lasted two months, but during those two months my lips looked wonky and they had knots all in them. I was not impressed.
Fast forward to September 2019, I got lip injections again. This time my girl Rachel did it- who has a fantastic reputation in Central Arkansas has a great Instagram account where she shows new products, before and afters, and costs, and works at a well-established dermatology clinic, Franks Dermatology.
The filler I received is Restylane Defyne. She used one full syringe at that appointment. My lips after one treatment is below!

I went back in January of 2020 to add a little bit more to my edges just to make sure they were symmetrical. My lips prior to injections were very asymmetrical and not a natural pout at all. That was what I asked for, and that is what Rachel gave me! Okay, let’s get started with the questions!
Q: Does it hurt?
A: Before you get your injections, Rachel will add a topical numbing agent to your lips. If you are like me and never stop talking, it will get in your mouth too and your mouth will go a little numb. Ha! That being said, it takes away most of the initial poke. The filler does not hurt being injected, the only part that stings is the little poke! I would also call it a “stinging” type of pain and not an actual pain if that makes sense. The procedure only takes about 20 minutes, so if you can get through little stings for 20 minutes you will be fine. The way I think about it is that I will get the perfect pout for around 8 months, so I can handle it for 20 minutes.
Q: How much does it cost? Is it expensive?
A: A syringe of Restylane Defyne is $625. Cheap? No. Worth it to feel confident? 100%.
Q: How long does it last?
A: This is all based upon the person and the filler used. For me, I still see great results from getting them done in September and touched up in January. It could last for up to a year!
Q: Will my mouth be all bruised?
A: Some people bruise more than others! I usually only bruise on one part of my lip because we have to usually do more in that spot since it is so asymmetrical. However, it’s nothing that a little concealer and lipstick won’t cover. *Pro Tip: Don’t take ibuprofen or herbal supplements until after your appointment. It can cause excess bleeding and be more prone to bruise*
Q: How long does it take to get them?
A: Let’s put it to you this way…. I got them done on my lunch break back in September.. Haha I was swollen and you need to ice for the first day so I would not recommend that, but it is so quick!
Q: What if I look like a duck?
A: This is where really trusting and knowing your injector comes into play. I definitely looked like a duck my very first go around when I got the entire syringe in my top lip (with nothing on the bottom). When I talked to Rachel about that experience she said it best as “Its the injector, not the product”. TRUST YOUR INJECTOR. If they are good and honest, they will not over-inject you and will not let you walk out of there looking crazy. You are basically a walking advertisement for them! However, on your first day you will be swollen but that will go down so don’t fret!
As you all know by this point, I love my lips! I am so much for confidence in my appearance and don’t feel like I have to overline my lips and poke them out just to get a pout effect. I do feel like I need to say that I am in no way saying you all need lip injections. However, you do you boo! If you want them, there is no shame in doing something that will make you feel more confident. I will say I am a new level of sassy with lips…sorry Derek 😛
